Yo, If a Jack Russell Terrier knows only one thing – it’s how to keep busy. And I have been a very busy dog.
Of course it’s not all fun and games for us professional dogs.
My big adventure this week happened when Woman took my pack – that’s me, Belle my JRT pal and Mia the big pain Lab puppy – to our secret beach for a walk (not that we ever actually walk, we’re dogs, we run).
This adventure was rad. Well not really I suppose. OK it nearly sucked. Jack Russell’s excel at everything don’t you know. But I’ve found a little spot of bluff on our beach which had me bamboozled. Me – THE Eddy.
It’s a sandy bluff covered in trees and bushes. Full to the brim with really good sniffs. Occasionally we flush a wood rat which is terrifically fun. In fact Woman has taken to calling us The Rat Pack – that’s how good we are. So there we were sniffing about and before you know it I am at the top of the bluff. I find this great little cave inside the roots of a fallen tree. So much to investigate, so little time. The tide is coming in. Woman keeps us moving so we can get all the way down the beach to The Big Stump and back before we have to wade in the sea.
When my reconnaissance was complete I turned to leave the cave. Uh uh – I was NOT going down that bluff. It had grown at least 100 feet taller since I’d climbed up it. Woman called and called. I whined and whined. She finally found me by having Mia seek me out. Geez THAT was not embarrassing. Mia thought it was so funny that I was stuck. She is such a pain. Woman got a hold of me and we had a brushy thorny fast ride to the bottom. Terrifically difficult for a JRT alpha type to give credit to a human for much of anything, but this was definitely Woman’s shining moment in dogland.
Back at home I had to literally drag myself to the heat hole in the floor for a blast of warm air to soothe my poor self. It’s a hard life for a professional dog. Later people and dogs. Your friend Eddy.
